During July, August and September a popular picnic destination on The Kymin, much favoured since the 1700's, will host an open air sculpture exhibition.
During the eighteenth century, the Kymin played an important part in the local gentry's lives and was on the route Gilpins grand tour. Once visited by Nelson and Lady Hamilton, it became a popular picnic site that capitalised on the spectacular views across 10 counties. It also led to the building of 'the Round House' as a place to picnic when the weather was bad and later a Naval Temple to celebrate the glories of the British Navy.
This long tradition of the Kymin as a place for recreation is helping to be resurrected by the exhibition this time not just for the gentry. Everyone can enjoy an opportunity to relax and view the work of contemporary sculptures throughout the enchanting woodland and hill side setting. So come and admire the sculptures, set within 20 acres of National Trust and Woodland Trust land. Admire the views, the grounds and the buildings or just relax and admire the spectacular views in this tranquil respite from modern life.
